Ours are pressed from sugarcane bagasse, the fibre left over after sugar is milled. The wall is thick, the rim is rolled, and the fibre is dense enough that a steak knife won't cut straight through to the table.
There's no plastic film inside. Most disposable paper plates get their grease resistance from a PE lining, or from PFAS "forever chemicals" - which is why they can't truly compost and why buyers in the EU and several US states are now being asked to prove they're PFAS-free. Bagasse doesn't need any of that. The oil and water resistance comes from how tightly the fibre is pressed, so you get a plate that handles curry, pizza grease, and taco juice while staying a single clean material all the way through.
